ADAS calibrations can only be performed if the workshop has equipment that meets the latest demands and the technician has the necessary training.

To ensure compliance with the vehicle manufacturer's calibration requirements, all setup preconditions must be met - including checking that the vehicle has correct four wheel geometry. This ensures precise alignment of the electronic systems with the mechanical geometrical axis of the vehicle. During calibration this is used as the reference point.

ADAS calibration tools FAQs

Do I need to perform ADAS calibration after a wheel alignment or suspension repair, not just a windscreen replacement?

Yes. Any work that changes a vehicle's ride height, wheel angle, or the position of a camera or sensor – including wheel alignment, suspension repair, bumper or mirror-housing replacement, and bodywork repair – can affect ADAS accuracy and typically requires recalibration, not just windscreen or glass work.

What happens if a vehicle's ADAS cameras or radar sensors aren't accurately calibrated after a qualifying repair?

The ADAS systems (lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, etc.) may operate on inaccurate sensor data, function incorrectly, or fail to activate when needed – which is both a safety risk to the driver and a liability risk for the workshop that carried out the repair without performing an ADAS calibration.

What's the difference between static and dynamic ADAS calibration?

Static calibration is carried out with the vehicle stationary, using a calibration target and rig positioned at precise, manufacturer-specified distances and angles from the vehicle – typically required for front-facing cameras and some radar systems.

Dynamic calibration is carried out by driving the vehicle under specific conditions (speed, road markings, traffic) while a diagnostic tool monitors the ADAS system as it self-calibrates. Many vehicles require both a static and a dynamic step to complete calibration fully.

Can all ADAS calibrations be carried out remotely, or do I need to purchase specialist ADAS equipment?

Our Remote Diagnostics service supports both dynamic and static ADAS calibrations.

Dynamic ADAS calibrations can be completed using the vehicle's systems and an ADAS-compatible diagnostic tool, without an ADAS calibration rig.

We can provide remote support with dynamic ADAS calibrations – you'll need our Core Remote interface and Cloud Link Pro remote diagnostics tablet.

We can also provide remote support with static ADAS calibrations, provided you have an ADAS calibration rig and the appropriate calibration target for the vehicle model in question.

Do I need different ADAS equipment for different vehicle brands, or will one system cover them all?

Dynamic ADAS calibration simply requires a diagnostic tool with ADAS functionality. However, most diagnostic tools do not offer coverage for every vehicle make and model. This is where our remote diagnostics service can help – we have access to a wide range of OE and dealer tools, so we can support dynamic ADAS calibrations for more than 80 vehicle brands.

Static ADAS calibration requires physical ADAS calibration equipment – usually a frame or rig, on which a target panel is mounted. More modern systems like our Cloud Link ADAS Pro display this target panel on a screen. The pattern on the target panel is usually different for each vehicle manufacturer, depending on which camera system they use.

Performing a static ADAS calibration also requires a compatible diagnostic tool. Most ADAS rigs require the workshop to invest in a specific diagnostic tool. Cloud Link ADAS Pro is uniquely compatible with any diagnostic tool with ADAS software.

Do you offer calibration tools for camera and radar-based ADAS systems?

Yes. We can provide the very latest ADAS calibration tools for camera, radar and lidar-based safety systems.The majority of static ADAS calibration rigs are designed to support front camera calibration. However, additional vehicle-specific accessories are available which extend the capabilities of these ADAS rigs to allow calibration of front and rear radar, and lidar systems.

How do I know which ADAS calibration equipment is right for my workshop?

It depends on the type of work you carry out and the volume of vehicles you're handling.

How much space do I need in my workshop to carry out ADAS calibration?

Requirements vary by calibration type and equipment. Mobile ADAS rigs are designed to be compact and often fold away when not in use, making them ideal for smaller workshops or mobile technicians.

Importantly, static ADAS calibration requires a level floor and well-lit bay, with enough clear space in front of the vehicle (usually at least 2m) for the rig and target panel to be positioned at the exact distance specified within the vehicle manufacturer's setup preconditions.

Do you provide installation of ADAS equipment?

Yes. We deliver and install all equipment, provide in-depth product training, and offer ongoing technical support including software updates.We'll also keep you informed as ADAS technology evolves, so your setup continues to meet your needs as the market changes.

Can I finance or lease ADAS calibration equipment instead of buying outright?

Yes. ADAS equipment can be a significant investment for a small workshop. However, we offer finance packages with affordable payment plans and we can help you to calculate how long you can expect to make a return on your investment – it may be less time than you think!
