Core Diagnostics invests in BYD repair capability as EV brand’s sales continue to surge

Core Diagnostics has made a major investment in OE workshop tools for remote diagnostics for BYD vehicles as the Chinese brand’s share of the EV market continues to grow.

This investment in equipment and software allows Core Diagnostics to offer in-house remote repair solutions for BYD, including programming, coding and ADAS calibrations, without any reliance on third parties.

With the unique ability to complete all of the support tickets it receives in-house, Core Diagnostics has been able to eliminate waiting times and support queues, so ultimately customers benefit from faster repair solutions. Additionally, managing the entire process in-house ensures full traceability at every step.

The company’s investment is already paying off as the volume of support tickets it receives for BYD vehicles continues to increase month by month as more of the Chinese brand’s models hit UK roads.

Globally, BYD sold over 3 million vehicles between 2020 and 2023, and with aggressive pricing combined with a rapid expansion of its retailer network, sales of BYD models in the UK and European markets overtook those of more established EV brands – including Tesla – in the last quarter of 2023.

Despite a challenging market for new car sales, in the first six months of this year BYD sold almost three times the number of vehicles in the UK than it did in the whole of 2023, with more than 2,900 vehicles registered between January and July 2024. Fleet sales account for a significant proportion of this growth due to attractive leasing deals. However, there are no signs of BYD’s sales slowing, with both Arnold Clark and Lookers recently opening BYD franchises, increasing the brand’s UK footprint to more than 50 retail and service locations.
